Liborio: My Great Love
Liborio: My Great Love is a compelling true story. A powerful heart-rending Australian tragedy, a human disaster that should never have happened. It portrays the devastating impact of corporate greed and criminal conduct upon a humble migrant and his family. Set against the 1950s backdrop of Wittenoom, the story brings to light the conspiracy and hidden truth behind it all, while capturing first hand the essence of the battle against the terrible scourge of asbestos. The story reveals how love for his sweetheart led Liborio to Wittenoom: the place where he was betrayed and where he unwittingly sacrificed his life. It describes Liborio’s tenacious legal battle for justice when he discovered he was dying. It paints a vivid portrait of amazing human love at its strongest, courage and acceptance in the face of loss, grief and despair as Liborio lays bare his soul-wrenching emotional journey and confronting his own mortality. This story is testimony to the resilience and inner fortitude of the human spirit. |

With Duty Nobly Done
Whilst this book was written to honour the war time experiences of Ray and Harold Gaby, it does much more than that. Through the eyes of these two country larrikins, Enid Russell has skilfully painted a broader canvas of Aussies fighting in North Africa, prisoner of war camps, and life in war time Kalgoorlie. 'With Duty Nobly Done' is the very human story of two Kalgoorlie brothers, nephews of a WWI Victoria Cross winner, who went to the Second World War with the 2/28th Battalion. Told via letters and interviews, Harold and Ray Gaby's war experiences at Tobruk and El Alamein and as prisoners of war in Italy, Germany and Poland, have been skillfully linked with explanatory background narrative by their niece, Enid Russell. The 2/28th Battalion had a proud record of service in North Africa and Ms Russell's book does justice to that record and her uncles' service for their country. |
